Starting as young apprentice, we have built up over 20 years of experience in the renewable heating & hot water industry. Our passion for delivering quality products and exceptional customer service has helped us become a household name for renewables in plumbing and heating in Oxford.

We offer design, installation, maintenance and repair services for all types of heating equipment, specialising in renewable energy, like heat pumps & MVHR. Our experienced technicians are equipped with the latest tools, training and experience to ensure efficient and reliable systems. We also provide consultation and assistance to installers, local groups, charities and builders before, during and after installation.

Whether you need a new boiler, heat pump or replacement part, we have the right product for every budget. We specialise in & are accredited installers of most of the above equipment but can assist with other brands also.

What types of services do you offer?

All of the above and more, including boiler breakdowns, underfloor heating, replacement radiators, control upgrades, MVHR, Split systems, Air Conditioning, Kitchens, bathrooms, general plumbing, consultancy & advisory services, independent testing or inspection and contract work.

What is a Heat Pump?

A Heat Pump is essentially a piece of equipment that replaces your boiler to heat your home & hot water.

How do Heat pumps work?

Air & Ground source heat pumps work in a similar way to your fridge, just in reverse. Instead taking latent heat from the air outside or ground, using it to warm up a cold refrigerant, compressing it to raise the temperature, then give that heat to water via a heat exchanger. There are much more in depth explanations and we are happy to discuss this during a visit or call if you are unsure. Rest assured the technology has been around for quite sometime, just like combi boilers, but not many home owners know how they work. So leave that bit to us to worry about.

How long does a Heat Pump last?

Just like your fridge or car, if well-maintained, your Heat Pump should have a considerable life span. I have been installing Heat Pumps for the last 20 years and have not yet been called back to replace one! The answer however is the number of stop/starts of the compressor and design temperatures. This is why design is so important in the installation. If you drove a regular car around in 1st gear, in town and down the motorway, stopping frequently, you wouldn't expect it to last that long. That is the same as a poorly designed heat pump / heating system.

Are Heat Pumps noisy?

No, not really. You may have heard otherwise but these are probably very old units. Different models have different sound levels but generally a heat pump cannot be heard over people talking. Ground source heat pumps make a sound like your freezer running.

Do I have to replace my radiators

Not always, with the newest range of high temperature heat pumps we can keep more radiators but we want the heat pump to have an easy life to give you the best value for money and longevity.

Can a Heat Pump heat my house and hot water, even if it's freezing outside?

Yes! Heat pumps can work on the same basis as above to temperatures as low as -20C, while delivering hot water to 55C. The big benefit of ground source heat pumps is that the ground does not get so cold, so happily work all year.

Are there any rebates or incentives available for purchasing energy-efficient heating equipment?

Yes, there are rebates, grants and incentives available for purchasing and installing energy-efficient heating equipment, as well as tax relief, particularly heat pumps & PV. We are proud to say that Tom Cross Heating & Renewables Ltd can provide the BUS of up to £9,000 for oil boiler replacements and £7,500 towards other eligible installations. I'm a plumber or builder and my customer wants a Heat pump, MVHR, AC or a HE boiler, can you help?

Absolutely! Give us a shout and we can discuss your customer's requirements. We would rather you ask at the design stage to benefit you and your customer the most! But if you have hit the wall and need help then give us a shout. We and you want, a happy customer to give the best rep for these systems for years to come.

How often should I have my system serviced?

Every year. If you think it has a problem, if your bills suddenly become expensive or you are experiencing funny noises or gurgles. Get in touch, earlier the better!

I've just moved in and have a "heat pump, air box, fan thing, outside boiler, pump box, immersion, my bills are expensive, ground pump, noisy fan thing, chilly blower box" can you help?

Yes, give us a call. Many of our 1st time callers don't know how their heat pump works or what it's called. We provide a fixed rate service, to pop over, have a look, make any tweaks and get your system up and running to get the best out of your heating & hot water system.

Can I use my PV to run a Heat Pump?

In short, most likely not.... I know that's not what you wanted to hear and there are many reasons why. Your PV installed by one of our partners can definitely help with reducing the running cost but without significant battery storage and arrays you will not likely be "energy independent". Call us to find out more.

You have gone on about Heat Pumps, but can you replace my old gas, LPG or oil boiler?

Absolutely! It would be remiss of us not to explore the options, so we will make a recommendation according to your needs. That may well be swapping your old broken boiler for a new one but with the grants available and running costs, a heat pump is often a good option.

What about Bathrooms and Kitchens?

Yes, grass roots plumbing is bread and butter. While our focus is on renewable solutions, many of our renewable customers trust us to return and complete a bathroom or kitchen installation, or vice versa!

Can MVHR cool my home?

MVHR, during design stage can have a heat exchanger added inline to the distribution system to help cool your home, but it needs to be cooled by something like ground loops or an ASHP.

Can my ASHP be reversed to provide cooling?

The no.1 question this year! In theory yes, but it is dependant on a number of factors like, what specific system you have and who it is made by, your distribution system, your expectations, space and budget.

Do you install complementary systems?

Yes, we work with many tried and tested suppliers and sub contractors to be able to provide turn key, bespoke installations. These include carpenters, ground surveys, heat batteries, tilers, general builders, ground workers, roofers, architects, planners, and not forgetting electricians....
